Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our classroom, we are building more than strong readers and writers—we are building emotionally aware, resilient young people.

To support growth, we are creating a dedicated calming corner—what we call our Regulation Station—a safe, welcoming space where students can pause, breathe, and reset when emotions feel overwhelming.

6th graders experience real stress, anxiety, and social pressures. When students are dysregulated, learning becomes nearly impossible. Our Regulation Station will give them structured tools to manage those feelings in healthy, productive ways.

A rug becomes a soft, defined space where students feel physically safe and emotionally grounded. The texture and comfort help calm the nervous system, while the clear boundary signals, “This is a place to pause.” The coloring books focused on mindfulness, anxiety relief, empowerment, and positive affirmations will provide students with quiet, reflective activities that calm the nervous system and redirect racing thoughts. The breathing sphere will guide deep breathing exercises, helping students physically regulate their bodies. The anxiety survival guide will teach practical coping strategies they can use not only in class, but throughout their lives. Even the digital wall clock supports routine and predictability—two powerful anchors for emotional stability.

These items are not “extras.” They are tools for self-regulation.

When students learn how to calm themselves, they return to instruction ready to engage, collaborate, and think critically. A regulated brain is a learning brain. By investing in our Regulation Station, you are helping create an environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to take ownership of their emotions—and their education.
