Regulation of Sensory Needs

My students need materials to regulate sensory needs, the fidgets and pin art can meet sensory input my students seek while the boogie boards give them a writing surface that isn't aversive like pen and paper.

My Students

I teach at an elementary school in American Fork, Utah. I have 12 first through fifth graders in my small group classroom for children with autism.

My students are expected to work hard each day and they typically meet that expectation.

We have a wide range of capabilities and difficulties that make our classroom fun and interesting. Throughout the school year, we work on the academics of a typical classroom such as math, reading, and writing, in addition we learn self-help, functional, and social skills.

My Project

I teach in a small group classroom for students on the autism spectrum disorder. I am requesting materials to meet the needs of my students’ sensory needs.

I am requesting a set of Boogie Board writing tablets, these will be used for students that have an aversion to the feel of using pencil on paper.

The pinpoint metal art are for tactile sensory input.

The spiky sensory rings will be used by my students that have oral sensory needs.

Having this variety of materials available for my students will give them the opportunity to get the sensory input they are seeking and then return to their work.
