My Project

Regulation before expectation is priority when teaching students with disabilities. My name is Gena Bonaccorsi, also known as Ms. Gena by my students. I am a special education teacher at KHS. I teach in a Life Skills Autism Support program. I have 5 students ranging from 15-20 years old. Our program consists of promoting and practicing vocational skills, functional academics, life skills, and communication.

Many individuals with Autism also have sensory processing challenges.

My goal is to create a Sensory Room to support my students' sensory preferences and needs. Creating a safe space for my students will allow them to self regulate so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. All of the items in this project will provide needed sensory input and a calming, therapeutic environment for my students.
