Regional Journalism Conference for Myrtle Beach's Best and Brightest
Help me give my students d the experience of attending SIPA, the Southern Interscholastic Press Conference, to help them learn more about journalism and enhance the school yearbook program.
My students are rockstars inside and outside of the classroom. They dream it and they achieve it! Each day, I am inspired by their individual spirits; they make me want to be the best teacher that I can be each day. I teach learners, dreamers, competitors, exceptional athletes, aspiring journalists, fashionistas, and artists. The future of our world is in my classroom. How lucky am I to be able to foster positive human relationships and learning every single day? What could be more fun? These kids are as special as kids come!
My Project
The majority of the students at my school come from low income homes. This past September, Hurricane Florence hit the East Coast. While it wasn't so much the wind that devastated the area, the amount of water from rivers that flowed from the North and into our state completely changed the lives of many of our students. Many students lost their home from this historic flooding, and were forced to begin again with their families. While nothing can change the devastation these kids have faced, you can help bring a sense of normalcy to them by funding a weekend trip to Columbia, SC to the University of South Carolina for the region Southern Interscholastic Press Association journalism conference this March. Please help these student journalists foster their growth and learning by sending them to the conference. You will give them a weekend full of learning that they will never forget!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
