Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students represent a unique and talented group of individuals who never let their disabilities deter their learning. My students come everyday willing to tackle their obstacles and face new challenges. I have many students who use my classroom as a lens for the world outside their community.

A part of my curriculum evolves around social justice and community involvement.

I want my students to see their potential, not only with Language Arts, but as global citizens for tomorrow's world.

My Project

In today's political climate, media holds a grip on our students and their formulations of opinions. These books will allow us to work on academic skills while formulating a more cultural and social lens about the world we live in.

Refugee, by Alan Gratz is a book that details survival stories from students similar in age and their journey to America.

In order to teach this book, I would like a class set, in order that students understand and judge the perspectives of those coming to America. Also, I would like to use this book for a community based project that reaches out to our local refugee population and helps develop connections to other communities and cultures.
