This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I ask them, "Where is the best school in the whole world?" and they reply, "Our school!" I want them to know and believe in their school's opportunities. With the teachers and equipment, they can do anything.
Our school is public and in a rural area, a small town where they will have a chance of becoming a productive citizen.
We have about 300 students at our school with 90% being African American, 5% Caucasian, and 5% Hispanic.
My Project
When my students are smelling good and looking good, they feel like they’re in Hollywood among the stars. Being clean allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, sitting under tables with clipboards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are fresh and lively.
