Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Maslow's hierarchy of needs identifies the most basic human needs to be fulfilled first as the physiological. Only after those needs are met can a person move forward in order to reach their fullest potential.
My students are struggling to get their basic needs met in the form of their hygiene and having enough to eat each day.
Staff members are often asked multiple times a day for extra food and for various hygiene items. Deodorant, toothpaste, combs, body wipes, and more. These requests don't even account for the students who have the same needs, but are uncomfortable asking for help.
The items requested will be used to make three "Refresh, Refuel, and Reset" stations. We will put the stations with the Dean of Students, Social Worker, and School Counselor's offices. We are often the first people students will come to when they are in need and by having a station in each office we can be more accessible. Our ultimate goal is be able to fulfill their basic needs to students can be academically and socially successful.
