My Project
The Calm Down Corner in our classroom is an essential space for students who need a break to manage their emotions and regain focus. Not only is it used by students in my class, but it also provides relief for students from other classes. The space offers a quiet, supportive environment where students can practice mindfulness, reduce stress, and return to their work feeling calmer and more prepared.
The goal of this project is to create a sanctuary where students can easily de-stress and regain their composure, allowing them to better engage in their learning.
My students are bright, creative, and sensitive individuals, each with unique emotional needs. By enhancing this space, we’re providing them with the tools to thrive academically and emotionally. Your support will make a meaningful difference in their ability to succeed in school and beyond.
To enhance this area, I am requesting a tabletop waterfall, a zen garden, and fluorescent light covers. These items will help create an even more calming, effective space for students. The tabletop waterfall provides soothing sounds of flowing water, which can help lower anxiety and improve focus. The zen garden allows students to engage in tactile mindfulness, helping them relax and focus on the present moment through activities like raking sand and arranging stones. Both of these items will support emotional regulation and stress relief, crucial skills for maintaining balance in school.
Fluorescent light covers will soften the harsh classroom lighting, creating a more inviting, peaceful atmosphere. This change will reduce glare on screens, minimize eye strain, and further contribute to a calm environment. With improved lighting, students will feel more at ease and be better able to focus on their tasks or simply unwind during moments of overwhelm.
