A Chinese Proverb states, "The strongest memory is weaker than the palest ink." As my students work on their reading and writing skills, they need texts to use as read alouds and mentor texts that demonstrate the strong power of words on paper.
The students in my suburban Missouri classroom are inquisitive and anxious to learn.
They love to write and enjoy exploring different genres of books. Our school has a large population of Kindergarten through fifth grade students. My students are highly motivated to learn and are eager to independently read the books I use in our reading lessons.
My Project
If I am able to add these books to our classroom library, they will be available for my students to immediately enjoy them as an independent reading selection or explore them in their own time later. When using borrowed books, fewer students are able to read them before the books have to be returned. My students will be able to see different genres of books and use these as mentor texts for their own writing in the different genres.
Reading provides endless opportunities for students to explore ideas and interests that may not be available to them otherwise.
Adding books to our classroom library will make my students this year and in future years able to grow as readers and writers.
