My students need materials and manipulatives, to create a lights and shadows center. I have also added rechargeable batteries and a charger, so I can be "Green", and not waste so many batteries.
I am very fortunate, to be working at a school, with children from many different and diverse backgrounds. Some of which, have had previous school experience, and some who have not.
My classroom is set up with a deliberate and clear flow.
It is very important that my students can move around freely and explore each center independently. It is an inquiry based program, so I am always seeking out new and exciting ways to peak their curiosity and interests!
My Project
By creating this unique, tranquil and whimsical center in my classroom, I feel that it will give my students the opportunity to have a space in the room that is calm, inviting and educational. It will also provide necessary tools and materials, for me to incorporate many of the other centers from the classroom, into this center's activities. Some of the materials and manipulatives that I have included, in my list of supplies are; clear and black translucent Magna-tiles, for building with, on the light table. As well as translucent Lego building platforms. Hanging lights and fabric, that I have added to my supply list, will create a distinct and cozy space to work in, and multiple types of illuminated objects, such as the LED light up cube they can actually sit on, and spheres, that can be incorporated into their play, and non permanent structures. I have also added some X-rays, shells and bugs, in hope to overlap some science exploration in this new and exciting center.
When students play in this new center, they can work independently and in small groups.
Build non permanent structures with magna-tiles, work with different forms of lights and illuminated objects, and even work on writing skills, using the new tracing tablet to work on their names and numbers.
