it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our classroom has received a wonderful gift: a donated a beautiful 55-gallon fish tank to house our beloved class pets, Doc and Marty, a pair of friendly dojo loaches. We are seeking donations to help us gather the necessary supplies and equipment to create a thriving aquatic environment. Not only will this tank provide a calming presence in our classroom, but it will also serve as a wonderful educational tool. Research shows that aquariums can have a soothing effect on the mind, promoting relaxation and focus.
Many students spend quiet time sitting beside the current tank, interacting with Doc and Marty while tetra and shrimp flit by.
By maintaining a fully planted bioactive tank, our students will gain hands-on experience in environmental science, learning about ecosystems, water quality, and the importance of respecting all living things. The joy of caring for Doc and Marty will foster a sense of responsibility and appreciation for nature.
Our wishlist includes material to build an aquascape within the tank, filter materials and water amendments, tools for aquascaping/maintenance, an air pump and the necessary cords and plugs to get everything up and running. We will be planting this tank with aquatic plants we are already propagating in class, and seeding the new with beneficial bacteria by including substrate from Doc and Marty's old tank. It's always nice to take things with you from your old home, after all!
