Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
HMS is part of a Title I district in Houston, Texas. This is an inner city school where, in our band program, we aim to help our students learn how to be excellent on their individual instruments and be all-around better humans.
My Project
Clarinet, Oboe, and Saxophone-playing students need reeds in order to practice and perform on their instruments. Reeds deteriorate quickly, and need to be replaced every other week. Having new reeds consistently is also more sanitary and healthy, as old reeds can harbor bacteria and mold.
Paying for reeds ends up being a financial burden for students and their parents, it will be a huge relief for them to not have to worry about having money for reeds for a little while.
They will be able to focus on improvement on their instruments and preparing for final performances of the year.
