Orchestra class is unlike any ordinary class. Aside from the obvious signs of the class not having the traditional chair and desk look, the students in my class are unlike any other. To be specific, the orchestra students always are enthusiastic, even on the gloomiest days and are always filled with positive energy.
However, our music department is a true exception.
Our combined choir and instrumental programs have produced phenomenally talented young adults and leaders who strive to inspire countless audience members. It is difficult to distinguish them as ordinary high school students at first glance, yet little do you know how much they are empowered through the arts.
Each morning, my students gather in the classroom and assemble their instruments. They begin to tune their instruments by listening to the concert master's note. Once they are done tuning, they go through warm-ups and finally rehearse our pieces. They come from a low-income community with a school district that does little to financially support extra-curricular activities. However, our music department is a true exception. Our combined choir and instrumental programs have produced phenomenally talented young adults and leaders who strive to inspire countless audience members. It is sometimes difficult to distinguish them as plain high school students at first glance. Yet, little do you know how much they are empowered through the arts. My students need new reeds in order to better their musical education. Frequently, they come in every day being held back by their lack of quality supplies due to financial difficulties. This drawback doesn't allow my students to reach their full potential, although their hard work. With these basic supplies, my students will excel as musicians and not have their financial status hold them back, which will encourage them to work harder. These simple essentials will make a huge difference in my students' playing. Throughout the year my students constantly use their instruments. The instruments can be used continuously, but their reeds cannot. With brand new reeds and cork grease, my students will sound their best all throughout the year.
