Our young program is an open and inclusive instrumental music program. Over 90 Percent of our students are from economically disadvantaged families. Despite the challenges our community faces, our students always seem to rise to the occasion. Our latest success was placing 25 students in All-District ensembles--the second highest rate in our school district.
Many students in our band cannot afford consumable supplies like reeds and cleaning supplies to take care of their school-owned instruments.
In order to preserve our school's investment, provide quality equipment to our students, and cover for our most needy students--I'm asking for several must-have supplies for our students.
My Project
The music at our music program continues to grow and flourish. A big part of that has been the great kindness and success of our partnership with Donorschoose. Our enrollment in band and orchestra has increased. Our participation in concerts, festivals, and contests continue to rise year after year. Unfortunately, our school and district funding has not been raised year to year.
We have a growing army of musicians who need reeds-- high use consumable supplies for their instruments.
Most individual reeds only costs $2-4 dollars, but multiply that by our roster of 19 clarinets, 12 saxophones, an oboe and a bassoon that price quickly out-paces our current funding. Moreover, many of our students lack the parental support/connection to fund these purchases and some families lack the financial flexibility to make these purchases.
