This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are energetic, curious and want so much to explore the world around them. However, my students experience difficulty comprehending the changes that happen around them especially at this critical times.
My students are all diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and have low functioning skills.
My students disabilities impedes their ability to effectively communicate their needs and emotions, perform daily life's skills and deal with changes around them.
My students are all currently engaging in remote learning due to the lock down. Since they are learning from home, they mostly depend on online tasks, videos and interactive read aloud via google classroom for academic instruction. My students individualized educational plans recommends a 12 month programming due to their disabilities. This implies that with the lock down still in place, my students will most likely be attending summer school remotely.
My Project
These materials will be delivered straight to a first graders home for him to use to improve his motor and leisure skills while learning remotely. My student has been doing an excellent job with online and hands on activities but requires leisure and gross and fine motor tasks to reduce time spent on the screen.
These items will provide leisure time and hands on activities to motivate him to unwind and reduce screen time.
My student is excited about work, creativity and hands on activities. He needs these materials to continue to improve his fine and gross motor skills and his passion for problem solving. He usually had access to these items while at school, but not enough of it at home. Improving his fine and gross motor skills and reducing the time spent in front of the screen are very important even while engaging in remote learning.
I am requesting these materials including pencils and pencil grips to enhance his hand writing and other fine motor skills. I have also requested puzzles, super ABC letter game and magnetic squares to help motivate him to reduce the amount of time he spends in front of the screen, and to foster his problem solving abilities.
I am hoping that having these items at home will improve his motor skills while keeping him engaged and motivated during off screen times.
