This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My English Learner students share many of my concerns about climate change and its effects on the world we live in. During a unit on climate change and its causes, a student asked me why we use so much paper in the classroom. The question sparked a discussion on how we can reduce waste in our classroom, and many students proposed using small individual whiteboards to complete warmups and other tasks that don’t need to be collected.

My students came up with the idea of using dry erase boards to help us reduce the amount of paper waste in our classroom.

I want to support them not only in their English language acquisition, but in developing their sense of environmental consciousness. Bringing dry erase boards into the classroom for warmups and writing activities is a way I can encourage my English Learner students to continue making an impact on the world they live in, however small it may seem.
