My Students
I teach at a Title 1 school where our entire student population is eligible for free breakfast and lunch. We have a very diverse student body with 14% of our students being English language learners. Each of our students brings a wealth of cultural experiences to the table.
After over a year of learning at home, I am delighted to be transitioning to fifth grade next year with my fourth graders!
My students are already looking forward to coming back to "real" school this fall and I canʻt wait to meet them in person. While our fingers are crossed that we get to continue to learn together at school, we know we will be ready for whatever comes our way this school year!
My Project
Half of my students this year spent 18 days or less in the classroom last year (just 2 days a week during 4th quarter). Some of them haven't spent any time in the physical classroom for over a year and a half! For many, the rigor of distance learning was far reduced compared to having a highly qualified teacher by their side encouraging them to reach their potential.
These small but meaningful changes will help reduce student stress, help rebuild my studentsʻ academic stamina, and ensure they get back on track for a successful future.
Your contribution will help to purchase fluorescent light covers for the 14 ceiling fixtures in my classroom. Along with eyestrain, extended exposure to fluorescent lighting can also cause painful and persistent headaches. Besides these two leading health effects, fluorescent lighting can cause difficulty sleeping, seasonal disorder, depression, stress and anxiety.
Additionally, without physical access to books this past school year, students' reading stamina has been negatively impacted. Magazine subscriptions and cookbooks are great because they have short articles or recipes to help students rediscover and build their love of reading. Your donation will help to purchase a variety of different subscriptions to perk the interest of even the pickiest of readers.
On behalf of my students, I thank you for your consideration!
