My classroom is made up of a diverse group of young men and women who are excited and eager to learn with the start of each new day. Because our school is a Title I school, many of my students qualify for free lunch programs and often come to school empty handed. However, despite the diverse backgrounds and experiences from which my students come, they are united in their desire to learn from and work with one another.
The pride they have in our classroom, and our school, is evident in their participation both inside and out of our room on a daily basis.
They are consistently working hard to make a positive impact on each other and our school. Most importantly, they work together each day to take ownership in our classroom, our school, and their own education.
My Project
Our 5th graders study the human footprint each year. We examine our own footprints and analyze how each of our footprint impacts our planet and its natural resources. We encourage students to reduce their footprint by using reusable products and being conservative with their water usage. I want to start practicing what we preach.
Providing students with glass water bottles will promote sustainability while decreasing the amount of water wasted from our drinking fountain within the classroom.
These water bottles will be refilled each day by our "Hydration Managers" and kept at each student's desk. In funding this project, students will have access to clean water in a reusable bottle while simultaneously reducing their human footprint.
