Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse group of young adults who each has a story to tell. They come from all different Latin American countries, including El Salvador, Peru, Honduras, Guatemala, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Cuba, etc. They are all new to the United States, each having lived here for under 2 years.

They have come from all walks of life and have more life experience than most people I know.

They have all experienced what it is like to lose their home and begin a life in a brand new country, and speak a brand new language. Some have migrated with their families, others with one parent, and some alone.

My students are all low income, free lunch students without many material belongings. What they lack in materials, they own in character, experience, and personality. They are a dynamic bunch!

My Project

As a math teacher I am always looking for ways to keep students engaged in their learning. Math lessons often seem to be a battle when it comes to keeping kids interested in what they are learning. As a citizen looking to do my share to help the environment, I look to waste as little as possible. Dry erase markers help me do both.

Using dry erase markers and vinyl sheets for writing on tables and desks will help bring interest to the classroom and waste less paper.

Students find math class fun when they can write on just about any surface in the room. The markers, erasers, and vinyl paper will help me customize groups and lessons and keep my classroom fun and interactive.
