This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Red sticky Dycem is so useful when working with students with special needs. With their reduced motor control and low vision/blindness, my students have difficulty accurately reaching for and grasping toys. Often a child's inaccurate reach causes the toys to fall over or even fall off a work area, frustrating the child and his teacher. By covering the work area with a gel-like sticky mat, we can help students by keeping the lesson material ready for playtime.
Red is one of the first colors noticed by my low vision students, and the stickiness of the Dycem keeps toys in their places while my students learn to make accurate reaches for toys.
With this large roll of red Dycem, I can cut individual pieces for each student and for the families as well, for home use. I can also share with other teachers in my program.
