Red Rover, Red Rover, Send Early Reading & Calmness Over!
Help me give my students the skills to find their voices and share it with the world; to advocate for themselves; to keep up with their grade curriculum; and to be confident.

My Students
My students live in the 2nd poorest zip code in NYC. Some are in foster care, some live in shelters, some in government housing. They have experienced more than they should have to, but they still let joy and hope and curiosity into their little hearts every day. My 30 students range in age from 4 to 13 years old, with various learning disorders. I am their SLP and provide their speech and language therapy. My students are diagnosed with Intellectual Disability, autism, emotional disturbance, and language disorders like dyslexia. Having the materials I need to help them feel safe and engaged would go a long way in helping them meet their goals and confidence much sooner. Every child deserves a voice!
My Project
Most of these will be used in my therapy room. Some students have lost parents due to COVID-19, so the calming tent and tree house will be used to gently develop language that is hard. Many of my students read 1-3 grades below their own and need help with sounds, building their vocabulary, and narrative skills. Some of my kiddos have a very hard time following directions because terms like 'between' and 'in front' are unknown. Speech therapy improves grades and reduces interactions with the law later on in life.
