Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how much fun gym class was when you were in school? Can you think back to the many fun games you played? To many of us, PE was our favorite class. And at our school, it's one of the most popular classes too. But with reduced budgets, PE funding is one of the first things to go.

Every one of our students was born in another country.

And many of them did not learn to speak English until they came to America. So we are very diverse in our student population. We have students in our school who are as young as 11 years old and upward of 19 years of age. And they all have one thing in common. They LOVE physical education class. Some of the students did not attend formal education in their country; yet they came to American to make a better life for themselves. So they want to learn. And they want to play and be active and be introduced to new PE and fitness activities. They enjoy ALL activities we introduce to them. So it's a wonderful captive audience to teach. We have students from around the world. Over 20 countries are represented at our school. And they speak many different languages. Yet, we teach, read and write in the English language.

My Project

We need a set of colored pinnies to make teams for games and activities. Our schools physical education program is very diverse in it's curriculum. We have the opportunity to introduce our students to many non-traditional activities such as juggling, parachute games, kickball, hacky-sack etc. Unfortunately, those activities cost money for equipment and we do not receive funding from the school for these items. So we must get creative. And one of the most successful ways to get funding is through Donorschoose. The success rate has been phenomenal. The colored pinnies are all part of equipment we use to teach them cooperative learning activities. They are non traditional games that make the students work together, to become a team.

We know you care about kids and physical education,so our goal is to get many small donations from people as possible.

We know the economy is tight and dollars are important to all families. So $5, $10, $15, $20 dollar donations are what we are asking for. If your pocketbook can afford it, we'll gladly accept your donation. Thanks for caring about public education
