This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school has a diverse population and is located in a low socioeconomic community, with a majority of our students receiving either free or reduced price lunches. We also house our entire community's population of students with hearing impairments.
We work hard to instill a high work ethic that teaches students the importance of grit, perseverance, and self-motivation.
Our students learn from day one how to have a growth mindset, and the importance of hard work and problem solving, and these skills are reinforced throughout their school career with us. We have accomplished this goal regularly through a partnership with our teachers, staff, parents, and community.
My Project
Our school community holds its students to high standards. To reinforce and acknowledge students that work hard to achieve these standards, we hold a red carpet ceremony at the end of every semester. The students that achieve a high level of academic performance are honored with a certificate and their parents come to watch them walk the red carpet.
The students love the experience of walking the red carpet and you can see the pride in their faces on the day of the ceremony!
Our current 'red carpet' is a long piece of fraying fabric that is taped to the ground. We would love to be able to purchase a real red carpet to honor our hard working students. Your donations can help us tell our students that what they do matters.
