Recycling, Pollution, Landfills - Is it important?
My students need activities, like the Worm Vue Wonders and a See-Through Compost Container, to help teach recycling, decomposition and water treatment.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What happens to the trash you throw away? Where does it go? Where do those drains in the street go?
My students are low-income city dwellers who have no idea what happens to our water, trash, landfills, etc.
Most of my students don't have much and reuse many items. However, some of them have a, "just throw it away and get a new one," mentality. Our students need an eye-opening experience to teach them how their choices, needs, and actions have an effect on everything around them.
My Project
I am requesting items to show how landfills work: including what decomposes and what does not, as well as how composting is accomplished naturally by worms and how it can benefit us. I am also requesting a kit to show how our water is treated and filtered so that it is usable.
Our students need an awakening to what is going on in our world.
Landfills are full of items that can be recycled and our water sources are being polluted with items that do not decompose. Please help me show my students how these things work and how they can make a difference.
