Recreational Reading Impacts Student Achievement - Leveled Readers Are Needed
Help me give my students Students need leveled readers to master their literacy skills and become stronger independent readers. Research shows independent reading impacts student achievement. Leveled readers support and assist primary students with strengthening thier literacy skills.

My Project
Our primary students are eager readers. They have a passion and desire to be successful. Located in a 99% African American low-income school on the southside of Chicago, our students are in need of recreational reading materials. Our school library was closed for a few years, and recently, with the community's support, reopened with donated items. The students are beyond excited to have the opportunity to circulate materials and enjoy this space as an extension of learning. The leveled readers I am requesting will support the mission and vision of our school, 'Where Excellence is a Tradition," and provide the materials our primary students need to be successful. Our assessment data indicates a need for books with targeted reading levels to allow students the opportunity to foster their reading capacity, stamina, and build their confidence, which will encourage them to read more and be successful academically.
