My students can be described as the following: excited, passionate and fun. Fourth and fifth grade students are doing advanced music training, including xylophones, African drumming, and Folk dances. These students come to music on a weekly basis for 45 minutes and throughout the lesson we explore the world of music. My students come from low-income families and are all on free and reduced lunches. However, they do not let that stop them from creating beautiful music with me and inspiring me every day to be a better music teacher for them.
My Project
My students are in need of a classroom set of recorders. The students have been working hard with me as their music teacher of two years to practice note reading. Having this class set of recorders would allow every student the opportunity to play an instrument that many could not afford. Students will benefit from this donation for years to come, as the recorders will stay in the music room and be used as a part of my fourth and fifth grade curriculum. It is my hope that spending two years on recorders will inspire students to continue music in middle school and improve my student's overall musicianship.
