This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
Hello! I teach elementary and middle school music at a Title I school. I am excited that I get the opportunity to teach music to students of a wide variety of ages and grade levels. Giving my students opportunities to explore music through many different avenues is something that I want to do this year, especially at the middle school level.
One of the avenues that I would like to explore this year with my middle school students is bringing back recorder playing.
The recorder is an easily accessible instrument to players at any skill level yet leaves room for growth and challenge for my more advanced students. Most of my students would have played recorder in 3rd grade and, more than likely, have not picked it back up since.
My goal is to explore how a recorder can be a new and fresh musical experience at the middle school level. You can say this project is really an experiment to see how the recorder fits in the middle school music space. Please consider donating to this project.
