Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a Kindergarten Dual Language teacher teaching in a Title I school in the Mott Haven area of the Bronx. The school primarily serves minority, low-income families, some of whom live in temporary housing and others are recent arrivals into the country. My students are very diverse in terms of their language abilities. Some of my students speak English even though Spanish is the primary language spoken at home, while others are recent arrivals into the United States and only speak Spanish. I have a few students who are dominant English speakers who want to learn Spanish. Although my students have various ability levels in Spanish, they are committed and excited about developing their Spanish literacy skills. They are curious hardworking students and want to be able to speak, read, and write in Spanish.

I want my kindergarten students' first reading experience to be flawless and exciting.

They will need these Spanish recommended text to be able to understand and to engage in the Language Arts lessons. With the Spanish recommended text, I would be able to teach them in Spanish and actively engage them in the lesson. I would like to have the books before the start of the next school year so the I can plan accordingly for them.
