My Project

All of the students in my program present with social-emotional/behavioral challenges for a variety of reasons including autism spectrum disorders, mental health diagnoses, trauma, and skill deficits. The items I am requesting will help them manage sensory issues and develop executive functioning skills in order to help them rise to their fullest potential. Every student in my program struggles with executive functioning skills. The storage unit will help them organize their materials and the executive function books will provide lessons and activities to help them develop and strengthen executive function skills. The STEM materials further aid in the development of executive function skills. My students struggle with self-control and self-regulation. Sensory tools such as the sensory peapods and the theraputty aid in regulation of sensory issues, as well as assist with behavioral dysregulation. The calming corner materials and book on applied behavior analysis enhance teaching self-regulation and self-control. There are a number of reasons to teach and practice executive function skills. Executive function skills support academic growth. Students use these skills to complete assignments, focus in class, study, stay organized, and manage behavior. They are also everyday skills too. Being able to plan, organize, start tasks, manage time well, and persevere through challenges are life skills we use every day. I would love to aid my students in being successful in school and in life.
