Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have worked with the majority of my students for the last 3 years. They have each taught me just as much as I have taught them. Each students has a varying level of impaction due to Autism. The students work on occupational skills, social skills, and speaking and language skills, giving them a better chance at engaging with the world around them.
I have been amazed to watch students who use alternative forms of communication to access their environment learn to speak, articulate and advocate for their wants and needs verbally.
I firmly believe my students deserve the same opportunities to learn and show their abilities as the general education population. Even if it is through alternative teaching tools and techniques.
My Project
We will count and sort pom poms into muffin cups, roll and cut cookie play dough, and we will sweeten our day by making biscuit dough donuts in an air fryer; toward sweet success.
Using, aprons and chefs hats we will create mini chefs who will rise up, as they learn about different careers and bake up some academic fun, through play with cooking equipment.
our goal is to encourage engagement in the classroom, through dramatic play and hands on math and language activities by transforming the classroom into an interactive bakeshop, during our annual school "Career Day," this March.
