Our incredible 1st grade team is blessed with a group of students who crave knowledge. They are extremely creative, inquisitive and intelligent children who come in each day with a positive attitude ready to try their best.
In my personal classroom, I am continuously amazed by how mesmerized my students are with every read-aloud book I present to them.
Our goal as a 1st grade team is to provide our fantastic children with a year of enriching and engaging literature.
My Project
Making lessons interactive and engaging helps tremendously with absorption of information and long-term learning.
Our first-grade students are 5- and 6-years old and need stories that are more captivating than those provided in traditional textbooks.
The books funded through this project are paired with a fantastic curriculum that embraces the needs of students at this age level. Each book has discussion activities that contribute to building a strong classroom community, art projects that benefit tactile learners, journal prompts, grammar lessons, vocabulary lessons and reading and comprehension activities. Having these books in our classrooms will enable us to provide our students with this enriching curriculum and recharge our readers.
We were fortunate enough to have one month of books funded, and now we are hoping to achieve our funding goal to buy the October and November books. The students and all the first grade teachers love this reading program. We had a fantastic September working with our new books and look forward to the books and months to come.
