My Students

Currently, in my class, I teach 17 amazing scholars. I am a first grade teacher at a low income, high needs elementary school in Charlotte, NC. My students enter my classroom everyday with a greeting from me, a handshake, high-five, fist bump, wave, or hug. Despite whatever struggles or setbacks may occur beyond my walls, I want the interactions and education they receive in my classroom to be encouraging and optimistic. I want them to leave my class understanding that they matter, it's okay to make mistakes, and that learning can be fun!

My students are creative, enthusiastic, and consistently positive.

They love to learn! They are bustling with energy from the moment they enter my door in the morning to the moment they leave. Their energy inspires me to be a better teacher and a better human being.

My Project

During our recess and after I have noticed a gap in what my kids need. One of these gaps is effective toys to keep them engaged and to keep recess....well recess and fun! On specific days we play on a field or lot and we currently do not have many or enough engaging toys. This is why I am requesting the bouncy balls, jump ropes, and foam footballs. The next need I noticed in my classroom is a proper snack time. We eat lunch at 10:00, so by 1 or 2, we are hungry! I have talked to parents and other resources about bringing in snacks but because I teach at a low-income school many of my children are dependent on free lunch and are unable to consistently supply snacks. That is why I am requesting the Chewy bars and Mott fruit chews.

I believe that my students should be able to consistently be supplied a snack and should be excited for recess!
