My Students
My fifth-grade students are amazing with unlimited potential, but limited resources to fully explore their ideas. The students come from low-income homes where for some, they only interact with educational items at school. Our entire school receives free breakfast and lunch, My students have a genuine love for learning. They love to come in early and stay late to help and learn. I want to be able to nurture that love before it is lost. Every year I have the pleasure of teaching students from varying abilities, from highly gifted learners to special needs students, but they all bring the same thing to my class: the love of learning and the eagerness to do their best. Being a person with a disability myself, I want to show them that anyone can be successful regardless of their limitations. I want to fulfill my duty and give them every opportunity they deserve.
My Project
We have over 120 fifth grade students who have recess at the same time. We do have a playground but there is not enough activities to keep them separated into manageable groups.
With only one football, soccer ball, and basketball activities get crowded very quickly and it is hard for kids to feel involved and exercise.
In Florida we are fortunate to be able to enjoy the outdoors during the winter months but we need the items to keep the students engaged.
The items will allow groups to jump rope, play corn hole, and spread out and enjoy their recess that they currently can not.
The containers will allow us to keep the items in one central area where everyone can enjoy them.
