My Project

I teach energetic 1st graders—a curious, spirited group who thrive when they can move, collaborate, and explore. Many of these students look forward to recess more than anything else in their school day.

Currently, our recess equipment is limited to slides and monkey bars.

That means many children end up idle, missing opportunities for physical activity, social play, and meaningful brain breaks. These breaks are essential: they help refocus students for academic lessons and support physical, social, and emotional growth.

Studies show that active recess supports concentration in class and promotes positive peer relationships. Parents often notice the difference in their children’s moods and readiness to learn after a good play break. Daily physical activity is also essential for healthy childhood development.

I’m seeking physical education and play items that my students will actively use every day. Each of these items was carefully selected to support different types of movement, cooperative games, and student engagement during recess.
