My classroom is full of energetic and eager to learn children. My goal is to have a classroom full of grade-level readers and mathematicians by the end of the school year! I plan to use decodable reading books as a teaching assistant!
I work in a public Title I elementary school serving students in grades PK - 5 in which such a large percentage of the school population receive free and reduced-price meals that we have been provided a grant to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students.
My classroom consists of 20 first grade students and me. My students consist of boys, girls, English speakers, and non-English speakers. Additionally, my children vary in their educational abilities with some students demonstrating above grade level behaviors while others have identified special academic needs. The literacy backgrounds of my students are also diverse with some having continuous exposure to books and reading and some having little to no experiences.
My Project
Fun and effective recess times are more needed then ever right now as students are spending increased amounts of time not just sitting but sitting on electronics with less opportunities for beneficial movement. Students are not able to walk around the room to get out typical energy and they are now even more restricted on what they can play during recess with actual playgrounds and their climbing equipment off limits due to concerns of safety for students.
The items I am requesting will allow students to get out excess energy safely distanced from others and the materials can be easily sanitized daily!
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
