Recess time should be fun and full of lots of opportunities for students to get exercise while learning to interact with each other in meaningful ways. Students in every grade need to develop their fine/gross motor skills and social skills. Is there a better place to do that than in the recess yard?
My name is Ms. Ludovici and I am the Dean of students at an elementary school.
We are a large K-8 school in Philadelphia. We have nearly 33 different languages spoken at our school. Our recess yard is a safe place where students learn how to play and interact with other students from different countries. Play is fundamental and recess provides a time for our multicultural population of fantastic students to interact with each other and meet different friend/cultural groups. Watching students from various backgrounds playing in our recess yard is both amazing and beautiful, truly a joy for me! Our school is definitely a melting pot. Please consider helping to make their experience even better!
We have basketball nets, but we do not always have enough basketballs as they often get lost, go on the roof of our school, over a fence, etc. We also have a gaga pit. This is a large, enclosed pit where the kids use a ball to get each other out. They love it. The balls in this project are perfect for gaga.
Exercise is important for all of us, but it's incredibly important for young and developing bodies and minds. Sadly, often times recess activities are the only form of exercise many of our students from Philadelphia get. All too often parents are worried about safety and are hesitant to let their children go outside. Please help the students of Philadelphia and ourlementary get moving.
