This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are happy, energetic learners who love to learn! They are diverse in their learning and possess unique personalities that keep them going everyday. They have encountered a few setbacks in their learning so far but they are slowly getting the appropriate support they require to continue learning.
My students are at-risk students with special needs who qualify for free and/or reduced lunches.
They are all reading at least one full reading level below grade level, and in some cases, more. They are lucky to have parents and a school community who support their emotional needs and with the right resources I know they will overcome their obstacles. They are bursts of energy just waiting to blossom!
My Project
These outdoor games will help my special needs students stay active and entertained during their recess time. Most school games and sports tend to be too challenging and exclude most students with autism since they require smaller settings and focused supervision. Unfortunately, our school equipment is limited to mainstream sports that my students are not interested in playing. Most of the time they are limited to playing tetherball or sitting all recess long.
My students require activities that engage them physically and mentally.
They also require explicit instruction and equipment that is sturdy and long lasting. These outdoor games will provide them fun activities all year long!
