The art of play teaches so many things. Research has shown that students who engage in play learn better social skills, emotional regulation skills, and problem-solving skills that will translate into the classroom. In today’s world of high-stakes testing and highly structured classroom learning environments, students still need time to play. Our project would enable our entire school to enjoy healthy play opportunities during recess.
We would like to create grade-level recess carts with outside play equipment such as footballs to teach hand-eye coordination, jump ropes for cardio exercises, and even adapted toys for our students in special education.
Providing students with their own grade-level equipment not only gives everyone in the building the chance to play with exceptional equipment but also encourages student responsibility because now these toys only belong to their grade and they do not have to share with the whole school.
By supporting this project, you will be providing supplies which will help our urban students learn soft skills like turn taking, cooperation, and friendly competition.
