My Students

"Our kids are growing up on a digital playground, and no one is on recess duty." -Kevin Honeycutt It's important my middle school students learn how to be safe online.

Two middle schools are in our town, and the one I teach at is known as the "lower" school due to the demographics and wide range of socioeconomic status.

I have students from the "hills" and students from Section 9 housing down the street. Being 7th graders, my students clearly feel a difference within the classroom. With my classroom management and high expectation that we all treat each other equally, I have produced a respectful community within my walls.

My Project

Communicating and collaborating online is part of literacy for 21st century learners, especially with Common Core State Standards. Students need to be taught digital citizenship, digital literacy, and research skills on a variety of technological devices.

My seventh grade core students have technology easily accessible to them.

However, students are learning to communicate and collaborate online via one specific device. Experiencing a variety of apps, programs, and operating systems will allow students more flexibility in the real world. The addition of just one new device (iPad) will help them accomplish this goal.
