Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Aloha Folks,

Our school garden will provide opportunities to engage students outdoors, in hands-on learning as well as provide a source of multi-curricular education, wildlife habitat, and space for scientific observation and experiments.

The garden will also serve as a healing place where kids can experience new growth and beginnings. Before the fire destroyed our school we had a beautiful garden that flourished with a butterfly garden with crown flowers hosting monarch butterflies. Our school would love to rebuild the school garden for our students. The garden will provide learning experiences for students in grades K-5. Lesson will range from simple multi-units in each grade level to whole year units, high tech project that results in Kindergarten-fifth-graders growing food for a year-end harvest tasting festival. Each grade level will grow a local fruit or vegetable to create a dish for the harvest tasting fest. Our school garden will also include a native flora garden to provide habitat for local pollinators and species unique to Hawaii. Our school garden will provide many avenues for learning hands on outdoors. School gardens are important to inspire the next generation of creative farmers and agricultural natural scientists.
