This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are highly creative individuals who love expressing themselves. They love art class, and are always coming up with new and interesting ways to express how they feel about themselves and the world around them.
Many of my students come from backgrounds where art wasn't offered in school, and many of them won't have opportunities in the future to express themselves in an art class setting.
They deserve a high quality art education, and I believe it's my job to offer them with all the tools they need to express their identities.
My Project
We all lost a lot during the pandemic. Time, friends, family, creativity, inspiration, etc... It's really been a tough year for all, but especially for teenagers who lost an entire year of the school experience, and didn't get a chance to express themselves creatively with art.
When schools reopened, my after-school art program was flooded with students eager to get creative and express themselves.
Many came with ideas they had held on to for months, waiting for the chance to express their ideas and create artwork in their vision. Every week I have close to 40 students, and they are all creating amazing pottery and sculptures using clay. Please give my students the support they need so they can continue to express themselves and overcome the trauma from the pandemic.
