My Students
60% of the students in my class lost their home and belongings in Hurricane Harvey. In addition, they lost their classroom, too. We began school a month later than planned at a local church in town.
My students are brave and adaptable.
These are just a few words I could use to describe them. They have embraced this year and have made the best out of the traumatic time in their short little lives. I cannot say enough good things about this sweet little class.
My Project
Hurricane Harvey has made this year so challenging for our class. The hurricane flooded our school and all of our shelving units and most of our classroom toys and manipulatives. The children need these key things to have a successful year. Without shelves there is no place to keep our center tools.
The students need to be able to manipulate and create with blocks.
My students would learn so much through experimenting with blocks and having a place to store them safely. Having a place to put the blocks up would teach responsibility. It is important for them to be have blocks. Through building blocks they can express creativity and imagination, make patterns, explore shapes, and experiment with symmetry, all keys elements of the kindergarten experience.
