My Students

I teach in a K-5 elementary building. My classroom is made up of over 20 hardworking, respectful, and sweet students. Typically most students who enroll in kindergarten spend their entire elementary career within our school. We are a school that prides itself on PBIS implementation and the home-school relationship. My school has also recently implemented AVID, which places emphasis on college and career readiness.

All of these support systems allow students to feel welcome, valued, and more willing to learn.

We are raising lifelong learners at my school!

My Project

I am using the Notice & Note fiction signposts in my classroom this year. There are six different signposts that we have learned and continue to apply to picture books, as well as chapter books.

Identifying the signposts forces students to think more critically about characters, theme, and problems and solutions in a story.

Students make deeper connections and their predictions are built from the text evidence. Layering in these signposts with our regular reading curriculum has given students a stronger foundation to build from, especially in light of Covid.
