Real-World Technology Application for a Gifted and Talented Class
My students need something more challenging than the basic technology curriculum. It's only February, and already they have completed all of the SEP curriculum units- they are ready for a new challenge!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Larkin's classroom raised $328
This project is fully funded
My Students
My school is a Title I, high-poverty, school in Flushing, NY, with a class of 7th grade gifted and talented students. They have finished my technology curriculum too quickly!
My gifted and talented students need new challenges that go beyond the basic curriculum.
Since I began teaching them, they have mastered block-coding (Scratch), HTML, and Lego Robotics. I would love to give them the opportunity to expand their skills with Python, a programming language with real-life applications.
My students can manage higher-order thinking if they have the right tools. I am always looking for hands-on tools that can allow them become engineers.
My Project
My students need a more rigorous challenge than the current curriculum can provide. The curriculum calls for learning block-based programming in Scratch and Lego Robotics, and web design with HTML. But my gifted and talented 7th graders have already completed each of these units! With a class set of licenses for Intro to Python at Codesters, my students can move to more advanced programming skills.
My students will use Python to develop the programming skills that can make for a career in technology.
These activities will be used in our twice-weekly technology class. They will be able to begin making the transition from elementary block-programming to the more rigorous text-based programming used by professionals. Your generous donation to our project will give my 7th graders the opportunity to go beyond the limits of the official curriculum. This will give my students new challenges while having fun learning!
Your generous donation to our project will improve our technology classroom by building future technology professionals!
