My Project

My 6th–8th grade students are learning important college and career readiness skills such as financial literacy, workplace responsibility, collaboration, and goal setting. All of my students attend a Title I school and have limited opportunities to practice these real-world skills in meaningful ways. I want to create a Classroom Career Store that allows students to earn, save, and spend classroom currency while learning how money, work ethic, and decision-making connect to their future careers.

The Classroom Career Store will function as a hands-on learning lab where students practice real-life financial and workplace skills.

Throughout the year, students will earn classroom currency by demonstrating positive behaviors, completing assignments, showing leadership, and meeting academic goals. They will then have opportunities to budget, save, and spend their earnings in the classroom store.

This project will help students develop essential career readiness skills such as responsibility, delayed gratification, budgeting, and decision-making. Students will track their earnings, set spending goals, and reflect on how their choices impact their success. These experiences connect directly to the real-world skills they will need in college, careers, and adulthood.

The Classroom Career Store will also reinforce positive classroom culture. Students will see that hard work, teamwork, and perseverance lead to meaningful rewards.

Items in the store will include small incentives such as school supplies, motivational items, fidget tools, snacks, and other student-friendly rewards(speakers for our Positive Behavior Intervention System and school dances) that encourage engagement and positive behavior. The store will also include leadership roles where students can apply for jobs such as store manager, accountant, inventory manager, or marketing coordinator. These roles will allow students to practice communication, organization, and leadership skills.

By supporting this project, you are helping students gain the practical experiences that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
