My Project

I am creating a classroom economy suitable for my 5th grade students. The students will have jobs, earn money, and pay bills like they would if they were an adult. They can earn bonuses for getting a compliment from another teacher, showing kindness, etc. The students will also have to pay fines. Students will earn class cash that they can use to shop in the class store. They will be able to shop every Friday and during transition periods. They can save their money for a large item or have instant gratification for a smaller item.

I love the life lessons students will learn with this system.

Some of these students earn money by doing things around the house, or for other people in their neighborhood. This will teach them how to budget and save, as well as treating themselves when they see necessary. If my project is funded, it will help promote good behavior and citizenship in my classroom, all of which will benefit my students in the long run. A class store seems so simple, but has so many wonderful benefits---behavior, citizenship, and economics!
