My Students

Engaged learners, leaders, and creative minds! Those are the words that I would use to describe my energetic and inquisitive group of eleven- and twelve-year-old students.

We have a unique design to our school.

It is an intermediate school with only grades 4, 5, 6 and approximately 200 students in each grade. The students come from two different primary schools that are made up of students that speak a range of 13 different languages and have lived all over the world.

It is exciting to see students that grow up in a beach community and have a strong love for the environment and embrace diversity.

My Project

Students in sixth grade are in a transitional time in their lives and putting a variety of books in their hands allows them to discover and relate to emotions, feelings, and knowledge on a personal level. I hope to have a classroom library that inspires my students to read and develop a love of literacy that they can carry into their adult lives.

The educational magazines will be used by my students during reader's and writer's workshops.

They will use news article of their choice to practice the reading strategies that are taught in the daily mini-lesson. The math, science and Scholastic News will help incorporate real world examples and connect the other curricular areas during our literacy block.
