My Students

We teach 85 vibrant second graders each and every day! Our students come to school wanting to learn and we do our best to give them the best tools to learn effectively.

Our students come from all walks of life.

Many of them struggle with reading. Each and every day they work hard in the classroom, in small groups and 1 on 1 to become better readers. They are hard workers and should be given every opportunity to improve their reading skills.

My Project

Students will use Scholastic News and Science spin to access high interest, grade level, non-fiction text. These magazines are very appealing to students. Keeping them in touch with current events is also important as they expand their world view. Students will read these magazines with their whole class, in small groups, with reading buddies, and independently. It will give them a great opportunity to improve their reading and comprehension skills.

This project will help teachers better align their curriculum with Common Core.

It will also give students access to real world reading materials. Students will become better readers by having access to these magazines.
