My Students
As a math teacher, I get to work with entire grade levels by co-teaching lessons and working with small groups of students. My students are extremely hard working and come into math with a positive attitude. I have worked to instill a growth mindset in my students. This has helped students be open to learning new content and trying new strategies. Despite any challenges students may be facing, they demonstrate perseverance and give their absolute best.
My students are a diverse group who are continuing to learn about perseverance by problem solving using hands on materials.
My students are more engaged and demonstrate a stronger understanding of the content when hands-on or visuals are used. The students especially enjoy learning through inquiry, games, and working with peers.
My Project
These materials will be used for a family night that focuses on the habit of mind, perseverance. Students and their families will come to an after school event where they can complete these activities together, learning the importance of not giving up. Having a family STEM event allows students and family to build a love of learning while developing a positive relationship with families and the school.
Students will learn about famous inventions such as the plane and basketball by solving problems hands on.
The students will not only be able to learn about the invention and its inventor but they will be able to experience the job of an engineer. Students will be able to make their own plane and record how far it can fly. They will also be able to build a car or bridge based on the challenge card they are presented. Both the car and bridge will need to be able to move. This event is a great way for families to collaborate, learn, and spend quality time together. By experiencing and learning about inventions our young learners will be inspired to solve real world problems. This will inspire new inventions to come in the future!
