My Students
My students are a lovable group of energetic, passionate, hands-on kiddos. They love digging into a science project, tackling a tricky math problem, or diving into a good book!
They face many challenges at home, but with the right resources and supports, they are very determined learners.
I teach at a Title I School in rural Maine. Many students come from low economic households, and almost all receive free or reduced lunch. With the many worries on their minds, one thing I don't want them to have to worry about is their needs for school!
My Project
Working with nonfiction texts can often be a challenging task for developing readers. Having texts that are relatable to students and the world around them will help to engage them and make learning more meaningful. Through this project I hope to improve my students literacy skills by exposing them to more engaging topics in Science and Social Studies.
With engaging non-fiction texts, students will learn and practice the necessary skills that a reader needs; such as reading fluency, comprehension, and accuracy.
Introducing them to higher level texts will help to expand their vocabulary while exposing them to deeper leveled thinking.
Your donation to this project will help to improve student's literacy skills through a contextual learning experience by teaching them about the world around them.
